Cosplay | Snow White

I’m so excited to share my latest costume with you, Snow White!!

Snow-White4-2

A few months ago I knew I wanted to create a new Disney costume but didn’t want to spend a ton of money. I realized my underskirt from my Princess Daisy would be perfect for Snow White. And I already had the wig from my previous Snow White cosplay. The only materials I had to buy were the blue suede fabric for the bodice and the gold accents – I used leftover red and blue satin from previous projects.

Have you ever re-used elements from one cosplay to another?

DIY | Paper Disney Ears

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to share this DIY with you – paper Disney ears!

Now, I own quite a few pairs of ears myself, that I’ve both bought and made. When Plaid Crafts reached out to me to work with them, I knew I had to make something Disney-themed and perfect for a casual cosplay. These ears are so easy – there’s no sewing involved, and it’s a cheap project that anyone can do!

YOU WILL NEED:

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the ear & bow template
  2. Cut out 2 ear shapes of your foam (I recommend using an x-acto knife)
  3. Cut out 4 ear shapes of your paper. This will be the “base” and will be covered up by the addition of more paper.

  5. Cut out shapes to layer over your base layer. Because mine are Ariel-themed, I’m cutting out water droplets, some fish, and sparkly blue “bubbles”

  7. To attach the base paper to the ears: Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge onto the foam. Then, lay the paper on top and gently apply pressure (it’s ok if some paper hangs off; you can trim it once dry). Once dry, apply to the other side.
  8. To layer your shapes, apply another thin coat of Mod Podge to the ears. Then, arrange your shapes and apply more Mod Podge on top to adhere them. Make sure you apply the Mod Podge liberally and avoid streaks – it will dry clear and glossy. For my ears, I applied the “droplet” shapes first, and layered the fish and sparkly bubbles over the droplets once dried.

Note: While you don’t have to apply decorations to both sides, I like to so I can choose my favorite side to face forwards.

  10. For the edge of the ears, I cut a strip of 1/4″ glitter paper and glued it in place. Don’t worry if there are some edges that don’t match up – that’s what the next step is for!
  11. Using a combination of rhinestones and sticker “gems”, I created a border around the edge of the ears both for decoration, and to cover up any imperfections of the paper lining up.
  12. Next, cut out the bow shape on contrasting paper. I used a pink/silver holographic paper. To assemble the bow, bend (but don’t crease) the outer edges together, and secure with tape or glue. Then, wrap the smaller rectangle of paper around, and secure.

  14. Hot glue your ears to the headband – the spacing is up to you! I put my ears towards the back of the headband so there’s room for the bow to sit. Then, glue the bow to the headband, gluing the flatter side to the headband.

And that’s it! A DIY, relatively easy (and cheap!) alternative to buying a pair of ears. Have you made your own Disney ears? Will you be creating your own paper ears next time you travel to the parks? If you use this tutorial I’d love to see the results!

Cosplay | Snow White (Designer Doll)

If you’ve been following my instagram & stories , you’ll know I’ve been working on the Snow White designer doll costume…when I first saw this costume when it was released, I knew I wanted to make it.

This is definitely the most glamorous costume I’ve made, but I enjoyed the challenge! I want to get a longer wig and style it properly before wearing her again.

COSTUME DETAILS:

DRESS
The dress was made splicing 2 patterns together; Simplicity 1607 for the bodice and Simplicity 2442 for the skirt. I knew I wanted a train in the back, so I taped some paper to the back 2 panels of the skirt pattern to add about 18″ of length at the very back, and tapered it up to reach the length of the original pattern.

SLEEVES
The sleeves are flutter sleeves! Basically, you take an existing sleeve pattern and cut upwards towards the top. Then you fan out the strips and create a new, wider pattern by drawing around the old pattern.

The red shapes were added using heat n’ bond, and I stitched around them.

TRAIN
I used the same pattern for the train as I did the dress, and used 3 panels of it (back and 2 sides) so it would flow on top of the dress. It’s double-sided red satin and pressed at the sides. I used 10mm rhinestones up the sides and on the seams, and filled in with 5mm.

WRAP
For the wrap, I used fur left over from by Belle costume for one side, and the cream satin for the other. It’s a simple rectangle, and I added some of the 10mm rhinestones on the fur side for sparkle (which unfortunately you can’t really see…).

Do you collect Disney Designer Dolls? I didn’t know much about them before seeing this Snow White doll, but now I’m really interested!

Magic Kingdom Recap

Last week I had a mini Disney vacation, and visited Magic Kingdom and Epcot! I thought I’d share a more personal post, since I’ve been lacking in those. I wanted to feature highlights of each park, starting with Magic Kingdom!

First off, I had to wear the perfect outfit. Am I really a blogger if I didn’t? :P I went with a Rapunzel theme after seeing this dress.

Tangled Dress: Her Universe @ Hot Topic

I also went on a hunt for the magical #PurpleWall, and snagged a few outfit photos there. I have to say, this is my favorite Disney wall I saw on my entire trip!

We ate a lot of snacks, and Skowalz managed to take a “BITE” series of photos…and of course, because I wanted as many instagram-worthy photos, I had to try the Dole Whip (which was surprisingly really tasty!)

My 2 favorite rides at Magic Kingdom are Thunder Mountain and the Teacups :) I got to ride both! I really wanted to try out the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train coaster, but the wait was too long :( Next time, hopefully…

I have also done Splash Mountain and Space Mountain in previous visits, but I am terrified of both. I just don’t feel safe! And after riding Space Mountain last year, I was extremely stressed and anxious. I can’t be the only one scared to ride these, right?? Which rides are your favorite?
