One year ago (to the day!), I was lucky enough to go on my dream vacation: Tokyo. One of the factors that terrified me of going was my strange seafood allergy; in particular, white fish. Over the years my allergy has gotten better and I can actually eat shellfish and tuna (not all red fish though – salmon is still a no-go for me). But white fish causes bad reactions and I was so scared that I was going to eat something that would cause a reaction.
I filmed this video talking about how I prepared for the trip, what I researched, and what I did when I was there. I am not a doctor, these are merely my tips, my experience, and my adventure eating in Tokyo.
Also, it apparently takes me a year to edit a video, because I shot this right after I got home and just never got around to finishing it. I also apologize for the rambling nature of the video; it’s one of my first ^^ But…late than never, right? I sincerely hope someone finds this useful!
Wow, can you believe that 2016 is already over? I’m not going to focus on what happened this year, but rather wanted to share some of my goals for 2017, both blogging and personal.
ART EVERY WEEK: Ever since I got ProCreate on my iPad, I’ve been drawing more. My main goal next year is to create something every week; I’ll be sharing it on my twitter.
BLOG MORE: I’m pretty sure this was my goal last year too, and I didn’t blog more. Whoops. I’ve already started filling my editorial calendar this year, so here’s hoping I actually stick to it!
OPEN AN ONLINE SHOP: This idea has been floating in my head for some time now, and I have a pretty good idea of what I want to sell. The only thing hanging me up is all the legal stuff, so I need to get my butt in gear and get that settled. Then I can do the fun stuff, like actually making the products :)
10,000 STEPS A DAY: Not your typical “eat healthy” & “workout more” – I just want to be able to say that yes, I walked my 10k steps a day and met my goals. That fitbit isn’t just a piece of jewelry! I’m also going to try and be more active in Powerpuff Bloggers, a fun community for nerdy bloggers to stay active.
Can you believe 2015 is over?? In some ways it was a great year, and some ways…not so much. But that seems to be how every year goes, huh? I’m really looking forward to all 2016 has to offer.
I neglected blogging for most of the year in favor of cosplaying, but next year that won’t be the case. I have plans to mesh cosplaying and blogging, as well as some other ideas I’m pretty excited about.
I’m not getting into any personal goals here, but I do have a few blog goals that I’d like to share with you:
Produce more original content. I really want to incorporate cosplay more into the blog, so I’m planning on doing both cosplay tutorials and cosplay walkthroughs (which I started doing on my cosplay tag).
Videos. Speaks for itself. Why are there no videos on Kyla Is Inspired yet?
Work with others. After the year gets rolling, I want to collaborate with others for a new blog series, or maybe feature some other cosplayers here. I’m not too sure where I want to go, but I definitely want to collab with others. If you want to work with me let me know!
And that’s about it…just a few goals, that will really have an impact on Kyla Is Inspired. I’m looking forward to all 2016 has to offer, I’ve got some great things that will happen personally, and I already have tickets to all my favorite conventions (Anime Boston, PAX, Connecticon).
So you may have noticed I’ve been a bit silent this past week, but I have just been so busy. I’ve been spending a lot of time working on my cosplays, and I just got a huge (32-portrait) freelance illustration project, so my spare time has been spent away from blogging. Yikes, this summer is going by so fast!
And speaking of going by fast, this week I’ll be going to Montreal for vacation! What? I booked this back in March, and I’m not even exaggerating when I say I haven’t thought about it.
So I need your help!! We’re staying at the L Hotel in Old Montreal, but I have no idea what to do while there! Do you have any advice for staying in the city? And sights I can’t miss? How about any great food places?
So, today is my 25th birthday! It feels a bit strange to be a quarter of a century, but I feel like this is a good age for me. Most of my friends are older than me, so mentally I’ve felt like I have been 25 for a year now. It’s been a crazy year, I quit my last job, started a new one, took a vacation, took a blog break, started cosplaying as a new hobby, and started blogging again with a bit of a shifted focus.
I am happy that the one thing that has remained consistent has been this blog – and you guys, my readers, always have the sweetest words and most encouraging comments. So thank you! You never cease to put a smile on my face after a bad day.
I don’t normally post personal items on the blog, but I wanted to share some of my goals for next year, taken from my “25 before 26” list (which a lot are actually carried over from last year’s list)…some are serious, but some are silly!
Don’t sweat the small stuff
Go running more
Finish five cosplay costumes
Don’t be afraid to go out after work
Take [another] vacation
Purchase solid, investment wardrobe pieces
Buy a new couch
Grow my bangs out
Finish illustrations that I start
Collaborate on creating blog/cosplay videos
Hopefully next year, this post will have kept me accountable to complete them!
What have some of your goals been this year? Are you keeping up with them?
