So if you’re a long time blog reader, you might remember me posting my Alice Madness illustration back in 2014, but I thought it would be interesting to post a bit about progression.
Lately I have been feeling like what I’m producing hasn’t been good enough. By what standards? I’m not entirely sure. There’s no one out there judging my work against anyone else’s, and I need to remember that there will always be someone better than me. I’ve been struggling with motivation – motivation to start projects and motivation to finish the ones I do manage to start. I started browsing my Deviantart gallery (dating back to 2006, ouch) and I realized that yeah, I’m a LOT better than I was 10 years ago.
One piece in particular stood out to me, my But Why? Alice piece that I’ve now done three times. Crazy to see the progression, huh? I mean…my first Alice barely had a face, and the card guard had no nose. Not to mention I didn’t seem to stay in the lines with the coloring.
Let’s look at the entire piece:
Wow. It’s impossible for me to look at this and not have confidence that I’ll get better; the proof is right there.
As we near the end of 2015, it’s time to make goals for the next year. I challenge you all to go back and take a look at some of your early works; maybe it’s an illustration or design, or cosplay costume, or even a blog post and compare it to recent works. How have you progressed? Celebrate it; every time you make something, you’re learning and getting better. If you end up sharing your progression, let me know! I would love to see it.
I admit it, Peach is my favorite character in the Mario verse, and I adore her racer outfit. This whole illustration started out as a simple doodle at work and was originally just going to be a portrait but somehow morphed into…this. (You may have also noticed she’s now gracing the first slider image on my main page)
On my cosplay bucket list is this outfit, but I’m kind of terrified to make a full spandex bodysuit…
Who is your favorite Mario character?
Remember when I first shared my little character Penelope? Well, I’ve created a new illustration with her!
You might have also noticed, she’s featured at the top of my brand new layout! Yep, I finally re-vamped my site, made it mobile friendly, and added a new page for my cosplay. Yay!
Once the hype of PAX East dies down, I’ll have some more time to myself to focus on blogging and drawing more. But for now…must.finish.costumes (I was ambitions and am making three…). Anyone else going to be at PAX?
Wow, can you believe how 2014 seemed to fly by? I can’t.
My blogging has definitely shifted this year, going away from a traditional fashion blog to sharing more illustration and cosplay. I’ve also stopped posting as much and want to focus more on sharing quality over quantity, and creating my own content (whether it’s illustration or cosplay). I’m hoping you’ll join me again next year on my blog journey!
What are you doing for the holidays? Whatever it is, I hope you have a safe & fun rest of the year :)
Wow, sorry for the radio silence everyone! The holiday season always seems to get crazy, and I’ve been so busy with other things that I’ve sort-of forgotten to post.
Anyway, I’d like to share with you my latest illustration, for the Lady Project’s 2014 Holiday Guide! (It’s on page 27). Oh yeah, and I was also a model for it…let’s just say I don’t think I have a career in modeling ahead of me ;)
Also, remember this step-by-step I shared a few weeks back? Yep, this is the final!
I’m hoping to queue up some more posts, but this month is always tough. What are you doing? Do you have a lineup of parties and activities this month?
