Costume Breakdown | Alice in Wonderland

This year for Halloween, I decided to make an Alice costume! I actually saw a variation of this costume on a Simplicity pattern and knew I wanted to create this "version" of classic Alice.(Also today I learned a valuable lesson - even if you iron your cotton to be completely flat, if you're in the car for a long time it *will* wrinkle back up! >.<Kyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayI'm dying to do a side-by-side of my first Alice Madness - essentially the same costume base, though I've definitely improved upon details and fit in the past few years.Kyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayFull costume breakdown is below!COSTUME BREAKDOWN:Dress: I used Simplicity 1873 for the base of the dress, but used the sleeves from Simplicity 1728 for added poofiness. To the bottom of the sleeves I gathered them and sewed on a band of white with trim. I wanted a blue and white polka dot fabric but sadly couldn’t find any. But I did find a cool patterned cotton that I ended up dying – not as vibrant, but I liked the outcome.Kyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayUnderskirt: I wanted a really poofy skirt to go under the dress, in this checkered cotton I found. So I took Simplicity 1389 and doubled the amount of fabric in the skirt (so if it was cut 1 front, I cut 2...and so on). The skirt sits on my hips and sits right on my knees.Kyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayApron: When I made my last Alice Madness dress, I did not fit the apron, which was a mistake. This time, I used the same Simplicity 1873 pattern, but used the sleeveless, scoop neck pattern to create the top of the apron. This made a HUGE difference – since it was fitted, it fit snugly around my bust and didn’t gape.I sewed long ruffle strips to add to the straps – about double the length that the straps were. The straps come around and cross in the back – those are velcroed to the waist belt, and the waist belt snaps together. The waist is sewn down to the front of the apron. The skirt was a simple oval and I added lace, trim, and pockets. I found cute stopwatch buttons to add to the top.Kyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayKyla Is Inspired | Alice CosplayHeadband: I sewed a big black bow and glued it to the headband. Then, using some extra trim, I glued a few extra pieces around the bow.Wig: Epic Cosplay Hestia in Natural Blonde. What were you this year for Halloween?
